Workshops

Here is a little post about something that really is quite a big portion of my life. In between planning a book, editing a magazine, prod planning my VERY imminent wedding and raising a toddler, I'm also teaching some crochet workshops this summer.

If you're in Essex, please do pop into the marvellous Make, Do & Mend in Chelmsford. The shop is run by my dear co-author and smashing, beautiful, talented friend Mrs Hannah Elgie. She is a long-time crafter and started Make, Do & Mend in 2011. I took her very first workshop (knitting) and since the shop has expanded somewhat. She has been on Channel 4's Superscrimpers (alongside some other fab domestic-type bloggers like A Thrifty Mrs) and has been in lots of magazines. As well as knitting, sewing and crochet, Hannah has enlisted the help of lots of other talented local types to teach some amazing skills- including a fab workshop with shoemaker Hetty Rose.

My hen party took place there two weeks ago, combined with an AMAZING spread of afternoon tea and bubbly, provided by the marvellous Calamitea Jane's. We learnt how to style our vintage hair and make-up before hitting the town, and it's a day I will always remember.

My workshops are intermediate classes, and next Tuesday I will be teaching crocheting in the round, how to read a pattern and chart and trims and edgings. If I can fit all of that into three hours! I also teach some of my special tricks, like changing colours, weaving in ends and joining on-the-go, as well sharing some of the knowledge I've racked up over the years. I'm by no means an expert, but so far everyone has enjoyed the workshops and come away some useful skills! Booking information is all on the Make, Do & Mend website- www.makedomend.com where you can pay by PayPal if you wish.
