The Finished Object: Stripe Cot Blanket (and a mini-make)

I've been hooking like mad the past few weeks trying desperately to finish something I started, oh, AGES 

 ago. Remember this? Back in February, I was inspired by some tulips to create a blanket for a little baby girl.

 I took some yarn from my stash, grabbed a hook and began to dream up ideas.

 And so I began looking for patterns, and decided once again to use Lucy's lovely granny stripe pattern at Attic24. It has served me well, after I made my sister's beautiful granny stripe scarf at Christmas.

 I selected my colours carefully, and ploughed away at the blanket, inadvertently making a really rather long foundation chain. It seems I overestimated the size of a small baby. Anyway, after a couple of months of hardline crocheting I can proudly reveal....

 Ahhh striped heaven. I wasn't sure of the colours at first, but once I began crocheting the border I began to fall in love...

 Draped over the sofa, it was so cosy to crochet it on my knees.

 And here is the aerial view. Big, bright and beautiful.

 The border was worked up in trebles- one tr in each stitch, though I did one round of double (SC in American terms) first as a base for the treble edge. I worked three rounds of trebles, then made a little picot edge, simply working one DC, 2ch, one DC into every other stitch, slip stitch in every other stitch.

Stylecraft Special DK yarn in:  Cream, Lemon, Meadow, Raspberry, Cloud, Plum

I presented the blanket to Olivia's gorgeous mummy, and they both loved it. Yippppeeee!

After that success I embarked on a mini project for my friend Debbie's beautiful boy Leo. He is four weeks today, and I enjoyed a lovely cuddle with him this afternoon. He is just the sweetest thing! And Debbie loved his new accessory...

The pattern is from Purls of Wisdom by Jenny Lord, and was very easy to work. I used yarn, button and fabric from my stash. Two happy babies and mummies. And one happy mummy here! Perhaps I should make something for my own baby! He'll be one in a couple of weeks, not much of a baby any more.
