A dress for Bea

Alas, alack. It has been another long break between posts. I can scarcely find five minutes away from the children to write and craft these days, and my beloved crochet occupies just a small hour or two in the evenings. Once the children are in bed, the house is put right and dinner has been made and eaten, I may just have enough time truly 'awake' to put yarn to hook. I rarely craft anything for myself these days, and that's OK. Throughout the first two or three weeks of February I was busy working on some commissions- I can't wait to tell you all about the projects. I'm thrilled with the finished patterns and can't wait to share more details with you- when I know them myself! But once work was put to bed, I decided to make a couple of gifts for some special little people.

This little beauty was made for another little beauty- my friend Hannah's gorgeous girl turned one on Sunday, and I knew this Mina dress by Alicia Paulson would be perfect for her! I used King Cole Bamboo Cotton for the dress, with the striped bodice worked in various odds and ends I had stashed away. I think it's the most gorgeous dress ever! And the challenge is on to make a Kath-sized one...do you think I can do it?

This little pink duck button is vintage- from my Nana's sewing box :)

It fits little Lily-Beatrice perfectly! I made the dress two inches shorter than the pattern suggested as little Beatrice is very dinky.

I also made a little gift for my nephew, Theo. He turned four last month, so we took the boys up to London for the first time to the Natural History museum. They loved going on the train, and we managed to nab the seats right at the front of the bus, on the top deck of the number 11 all the way to Kensington. The dinosaur gallery was packed but Albie LOVED it and I can't wait to take him again.
For Theo, I was inspired by Yvestown's lovely granny square scarf, so raided my stash once again for little granny squares, edged in Stylecraft Special DK in Silver, with bright green flashes.
Please excuse my poor photography, I really need to do something about it!

Anyway, I'll be back very soon I promise with another installment of my yarn review and some sneaky peeks of all the commissions I've been working on. Also, I would love to give you a little room tour of George's gorgeous handmade nursery.

Happy hooking!

  1. Lovely makes... the dress is a dream! Once settled in the eve all I seem to be able to manage is a few rows to a simple make - so plenty of wristwarmers!
