Easter time at Inverleith

The weekend was one of plans made then un-made then re-made, and in the end I don't feel as though we did very much at all. It was just lovely to have D with me all weekend, and spend some properly leisure time with friends and family. Until we're in the new house it's difficult to have more than two or three visitors at a time, so my hostess skills are a bit limited here at Inverleith. I can't wait until we're in the house and have the room for Easter lunches, Christmas dinners, and parties with friends. 

  

So here is the weekend in brief....

 Maundy Thursday: Tea, decorations, more tea, magazines and the beginnings of a little crochet bunting...

  Good Friday: Completion of the bunting (modelled by moi), Bluebells in the woods at Little Baddow, baking Easter biscuits then the Black Bull festival with Amy...

 

 

Saturday: picking up dry cleaning, a little mooch about Truly Madly Vintage, getting some summer togs for my boys, a night in with my friend Sarah and her amazing stories from her trip to South America (and some wine of course)

 Easter Sunday: BBQ at my sister's and some of D's asparagus tart. To serve four, you'll need:

• One packet of asparagus tips
• One packet of ready rolled puff pastry
• 1 tbsp dijon mustard
• 50g grated mature cheddar

First, preheat your oven to a medium temperature (we use Gas Mark 5). Then un-roll your pastry and score a border about an inch from the edge of the pastry, all the way round. Spread the mustard up to the edge of the border, then sprinkle the grated cheddar. Line up your asparagus and bake! Yum. We had it with jersey royals and salad. A perfect seasonal lunch. 

For the BBQ my sister made burgers and marinated chicken, while I made halloumi and vegetable skewers and a potato salad.

Easter Monday: Watching the Maldon Mud Race from the banks of the canal next to my dad's house, eating pizza, getting sunburned then having a quick afternoon tea at my mums's. 

Lovely jubbly. Tonight I'm off to knit and natter, and then preparing for a little Royal Wedding tea party.

p.s. My cookie cutters were from Tesco and the Easter garland, pegs and felt decorations from Paperchase. I also really need to learn to use my camera. My pictures are awful! They looks so blue and out of focus.
