Annabel

Hello! Me again! I made something else- and it's GREEN! I think I am in love with green. This particular green is Drops Nepal in Olive Mix- some gorgeous soft, thick wool I bought a loooooong while ago with no real project in mind.

In September I decided to expand my knitting skills with another cardi- this time knitted in the round on chunky 6mm needles. Easy peasy. And it was! Until I got to the sleeves. Having never knitted anything in the round before I found the garter stitch a fiddle. Knit one row, purl the next. My first sleeve had ladders all the way down from the change from one DPN to the next. But I got there in the end. However, put off by the fiddly-ness of sleeve number one and a raft of commissions and Christmas, Annabel went back into her bag for a few months. Until January when I decided to just get on with it, and it took just a few evenings to finish it. The pattern is Annabel by Quince & Co...

TADAH!

 I love the neckline.
See that ladder there on the sleeve?

The colour is heaven, and changes in every light.

The wooden buttons are from Liberty.
Soft, warm and cosy. Perfect. I think I'd like another one. Maybe next winter, I can't face waiting six months for more sleeve motivation! I'm hoping to try another cardigan soon though- perhaps Andi Sutterland's Miette cardi? Suggestions please! Simplicity is key.

  1. Oh I am loving that colour! I feel like I need to spend a week knitting and doing it all wrong, just so that I can get practice at learning how to rectify my mistakes. It's the fear of that which is stopping me from doing anything really and progressing. I just finished a mock up of a sleeveless wrap cardi, and I can do it and I love it. I want one in a natural colour way but I would also like some in colours too. I was thinking a green like this. I've already bought the yarn for the wrist warmers that will compliment it! ha ha! I still have a long way to go!

Have super weekend my lovely xxx

    1. Oh man, the mistakes in this cardi are really obvious! I did manage to rescue dropped stitches with a crochet hook, but I wonder if this works better in stocking stitch. There are quite a lot of really visible mistakes, but for me this is the joy of handmade. The wrap cardi would be gorgeous in this! x

  2. Gorgeous colour! Funnily, I saw someone else sporting a newly made Annabel this week, can't think which blog. In mustard. Yum. I too got fed up with ladders on dps so much so that I finally mastered the magic loop. So impressive, I feel like a true knitter. Though actually, it must be far easier than it looks for me to do it. Have a go, there will be no more ladders!

    1. Thanks Gem! It was hiding in my husband's cupboard in our old flat at Park Ave, I think it may have come from a chazzer originally- or perhaps from his Dad! Our neighbour Roger collects old hangers, but Darryl wanted to keep this one. I don't blame him!

  9. This is lovely. I'm rubbish at fixing mistakes. You really do need to keep making them to be able to practice. When someone shows me it comes flooding back but it needs to be learnt in real time. I'm really enjoying knitting my Mae shrug. The end is kind of in sight (just a bit of knitting in the round to conquer!!) x
